The Evolution of Sociotechnical-Architecture as a Practice

Sociotechnical architecture is gaining traction in the tech world, but truly independent, practitioner-driven knowledge remains rare. It’s moving beyond a niche term used only by early adopters (InfoQ Trends 2025). Some have called this “digital transformation” or “architecture-based org development”; today, it is increasingly known as sociotechnical-architecture. This approach combines many perspectives into a systemic change-management approach. It includes many aspects that touch strategy, organizational development, psychology, leadership, lean process management, business architecture, technical architecture, technology and many others.

There are many deep-dive books and renowned experts who have spent decades researching these topics. We do not claim to be on that level—instead, we see ourselves as practitioners, sharing hands-on experiences and lessons learned from the field.

The Purpose of this Website

The main purpose of this website is to increase adoption of these practices by sharing practitioner experiences and opinions about the organizational prerequisites for success. We also link to valuable books, GitHub projects, blogs, and websites to help you discover the best resources. AI is also changing how consulting and facilitation are performed, so we provide prompts and resources for self-paced and AI-assisted learning in the Toolbox.

This is a collaborative effort by multiple contributors (direct contribution) and supporters (through reviews, discussions, knowledge exchange). We will always try to ask original authors/creators for permission or invite them to contribute directly.

If you have any concerns or see a potential conflict with what is provided here, please contact me (the main curator) directly. I’m always open for dialogue.

Contributors, Practitioners and Supporters

This is a list of people who help curate our content by writing blog posts, reviewing articles, or simply supporting what we do here by sharing knowledge within this small community of practitioners. These contributors are leaders in large enterprises, authors, consultants, and content creators who shape our knowledge, strategy, and community. Connect, learn, and collaborate with experts in sociotechnical architecture, platform strategy, and digital transformation. Their main motivation is to exchange knowledge and help others adopt these practices. Feel free to reach out to them to share insights and connect.
